What Others Say About Coach Jermel Jones

Dear Coach,

As a grateful mom, I cannot express enough gratitude for the positive influence you have had on my son’s life. Your dedication, motivation, and inspiring leadership have helped shape him into a more confident, responsible, and motivated young man. The sense of family and community you have fostered within the team has been instrumental in his personal growth and success. Colin is a brilliant kid, but hard to motivate to go the extra mile. School work is easy but boring for him. School, before your team, was boring for him.

Before joining your team, Colin despised a few things in life.

1. Waking up early
2. Physical labor in the sweltering heat
3. Not playing video games
4. Turning school work in on time

Your belief in him has brought out in him the drive to approach each day with optimism, determination, and a hunger to be better. I see evidence of this daily. His dad and I are in awe at the young man that is developing before our very eyes. A young man that does not want to miss a day of school because he wants to be there for his team. A young man that works hard to turn everything in on time so he can stay on the team. A young man that runs instead of walks when asked to hurry up. A young man that has decided to go to practice in the Florida heat even though his season is over and it’s optional. A young man that likes his team more than his video games. A young man determined to improve himself, choosing what is hard instead of what is easy.

The family you’ve created with this team has given him a community to belong to. He understands that being part of a team means being accountable not only to himself but also to his teammates and, most importantly, to you as his coach. This awareness has instilled in him a deep sense of responsibility that has changed the man he will become forever.

Thank you, Coach, for your unwavering commitment to our children. Your passion for coaching, emphasis on education, and ability to inspire teamwork and community have made an indelible mark on my son’s life. We are forever grateful for the invaluable lessons and positive influence you have provided.

With heartfelt appreciation,

"I tell people this all the time, there's certain people that you cross paths with you'll never meet another soul like and you happen to be one of those people, Coach. Once someone crosses your path you leave a light on them."

"This Man of God, Jermel Jones, has been a father to my son and a mentor to our family!! He gives sound biblical doctrine! My daughter is swimming out of state in Colorado because of his prayers and guidance; my son is an Evangelist in Texas because of his prayers, encouragement and guidance; and finally, I went back to school at 50 years old and I will be a successful RRT in 17 months because of his prayers, encouragement and guidance!! Oh and did I say his advice was biblical and sound doctrine! That part!!!"

I know Seminole County football. I know Lyman football. I know the challenges Coach Jones was facing including a ridiculously difficult schedule. The logical side of my brain knows that the Greyhound's record should be reversed - 2 wins and 6 losses. Thankfully, I also know Jermel's heart. I know his faith. I know his work ethic. I know 1st hand his ability to develop a culture and turn a program completely around. I know how he can take a group of coaches and young men and mold them together."

"Proud of you and all you have done for the Lyman program. While we see and hear about the successes on the field, I know God is using you even more greatly off the field."

"When my son was coming out of middle school, we considered coming to play for Coach Jones. Well, my son chose another school. He didn’t want to leave his buddies at that time. As fate would have it, we ended up transferring to the school the next year, but Coach had just moved back to Florida. So we barely missed each other in a way. Now most coaches would be done the second they lost the kid in the first place, but not Coach Jones. Even though we never played for him, he has taken more than one phone call from me to talk football. He has even watched film for me to give me his honest opinion on things. He didn’t have to do any of this. He truly cares about kids and about people. The way a Coach should. I could call him today and he’d answer or get right back to me. That’s who he is. So even though we don’t know each other that well, I do know the character of this man and what’s in his heart. Any program he’s a part of is much better for having him."
